Through Pamaskong Handog 2025, BDO and SM will continue their holiday practice of honoring Filipinos living abroad

The holidays are a time for many Filipino families to get together, celebrate, and be thankful. But for the millions of Filipinos who still work abroad, Christmas often means another year of watching important events from afar.

BDO Unibank, Inc. (BDO) and SM Supermalls will hold their annual community celebration, Pamaskong Handog, again on Dec. 6 in SM City Sto. Tomas and on Dec. 13 in SM City Laoag. The goal is to honor their sacrifices and bring families closer together, even if they live far away.

A beloved custom for more than ten years, Pamaskong Handog started as a way for BDO to thank Filipinos who worked abroad in places like Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Italy, and the Middle East. Over the years, it has grown into several happy events that allow families to get together and enjoy “Pasko sa Pinas.”

This celebration every year has always shown BDO’s dedication to Alagang Kabayan, a type of care that is based on knowing OFs’ hopes, struggles, and strengths. BDO makes sure that all money sent home gets there safely and easily, and Pamaskong Handog strengthens the emotional bond by reminding each of them that they are seen, valued, and honored.

This year’s message highlights the partnership between BDO and SM.

“Abot ang pangarap kasama ang BDO at SM” is this year’s message, and it says something simple but very important: dreams aren’t meant to be carried alone. Filipinos can count on BDO and SM to help them every step of the way, whether they are building a house, starting a business, saving for retirement, or making sure their kids go to school.

BDO makes sure that every Filipino family, whether they live in the Philippines or another country, has access to safe and helpful banking services that help them reach their goals through goods and services like BDO Kabayan Savings, BDO Pay, Kabayan Loans, Cash Agad, and other financial solutions.

A party with lots of fun, music, and important ties

The Pamaskong Handog celebrations this year look like they will be lively and emotional. The celebration is even more special because Piolo Pascual, who has been a BDO ambassador for remittances for a long time, is returning. His genuine concern for Filipino families has made him a familiar and comforting figure in BDO’s community activities around the world.

Lifestyle star Small Laude will be joining the fun with her witty and lively personality. Also joining are the crowd-favorite comedy and content group Beks Battalion, who will make everyone laugh, play games, and feel truly joyful during the holiday season.

People who go can look forward to exciting prizes, events for the whole family, and the chance to catch up with kababayans, which is the Filipino word for “family.”

A coming home of the heart

Pamaskong Handog has touched the lives of many Filipino families every year, bringing back memories of hometown fiestas, reunions full of laughter, and just being together. This is more than just an event; it’s a celebration of who we are, our thanks, and our love for those who have given so much to make the lives of those they love better.

BDO is always there for OFs through Alagang Kabayan, not just during the holidays. Because there is one truth that doesn’t change: ang pangarap, mas kaya kapag may kasama. Talk about the plan with BDO and SM.

The Power of Flexible Learning: OEd (Online Education) Leads the Shift Toward a Future-Ready, Flexible Workforce

In today’s fast-moving world, Filipinos are expected to juggle everything at once—careers, family responsibilities, personal dreams, and the constant pursuit of a better life. With so much on our plates, education can no longer remain tied to fixed schedules or four walls. Learning must move with us, grow with us, and fit the reality we live every day. This is the driving force behind OEd (Online Education), a bold commitment to one transformative idea—education should adapt to you, not the other way around.

A Rebrand Rooted in Real Lives

Today’s learners, including working parents, young professionals, returning students, and global Filipinos, come from diverse backgrounds with equally diverse needs. OEd (Online Education) embraces this reality through a model built on three pillars:
• Start Anytime

• Extend Anytime

• Study at Your Own Pace

This approach breaks away from traditional semestral calendars and fixed timetables, aligning instead with how people actually live and learn today. For many Filipinos, this flexibility means education finally fits into their rhythm—whether studying after a night shift, catching up on modules during a quiet weekend, or opening lessons from a café or overseas. As countless student stories demonstrate, OEd (Online Education) serves as a supportive partner rather than a constraint.

A Strategic Shift for the Modern Workforce

FFrom a business perspective, the rebranding enhances the institution’s role in developing a skilled and future-ready workforce. As industries evolve and digital transformation accelerates, the need for continuous learning becomes essential.

OEd (Online Education) addresses this need with:
• Programs from SHS to Doctorate
• Industry-aligned curriculum
• 24/7 accessible learning systems
• Flexible pacing is ideal for working professionals

Since most Filipino learners are also breadwinners, employees, or entrepreneurs, earning a degree while remaining productive is a significant advantage. OEd (Online Education) supports economic mobility by making education more accessible, more flexible, and more aligned with real-world demands. Grounded in Modern Educational Principles: Beyond convenience, the rebrand reflects a deeper academic shift toward:

• Learner autonomy
• Asynchronous, self-paced learning
• Competency-based progression
• Improved accessibility for nontraditional students

This student-first philosophy is key to modern education. By empowering learners to control when and how they study, OEd (Online Education) promotes mastery, reduces stress, and removes long-standing barriers that once hindered thousands of Filipinos from earning a degree. Its extensive offering—spanning senior high school to doctoral programs—also creates a full learning ecosystem, allowing seamless academic progression in one institution. Stories That Reflect the Filipino Experience

What truly defines OEd (Online Education) are the people it serves:

• A call center agent studying during lunch breaks
• An OFW earning a degree abroad without sacrificing employment
• A parent returning to school after raising a family
• A creative professional balancing shoots, business tasks, and coursework

These are not extraordinary cases—they are the real faces of modern education in the Philippines.

The Future of Learning Is Flexible

As the Philippines advances in its digital shift, OEd (Online Education) leads the movement toward inclusive, adaptable, and responsive education. Its rebrand is more than a refreshed look; it is a renewed commitment to meet students where they are, support their goals, and ensure learning remains accessible to all. Goodbye Traditional, Hello Flexible is more than a declaration—it is a promise that your goals, your time, and your life matter.

Ready to take control of your future?

A Blockbuster Night: BDO Pay Hosts Exclusive ‘Meet, Greet & Bye’ World Premiere

The evening was brimming with excitement. BDO endorsers Belle Mariano and Piolo Pascual (left photo)—who play Geri and Tupe Facundo in ‘Meet, Greet & ’Bye’—pumped up the crowd with a fun groupie inside a packed Cinema 2 at SM Megamall—a clear sign of the excitement around the film and its partnership with BDO.

The cheers grew even louder when JK Labajo (right photo), who plays Leo Facundo, made a surprise appearance to greet the audience. Joining the Facundos onstage were BDO leaders Dave Khodr and Genie T. Gloria, making the world premiere a celebration shared by fans, partners, and the wider BDO community.

The event celebrated the Filipino family. Roy L. Villareal, Senior Vice President of BDO Digital Banking, opened the program by highlighting how meaningful it is for BDO to support a movie that honors Filipino families. He shared that, similar to the film, BDO is committed to making its products and services more accessible to every Filipino household—regardless of their location.

Talagang Kabayan is successful. Genie T. Gloria, who is the Senior Vice President and Head of BDO Remittance, stands in the center with members of the Digital Customer Experience team. Their strong collaboration not only helped make the premiere a success but also continues to strengthen BDO’s commitment to making banking easier and more accessible for OFWs and their families around the world.

Businesses that do well help Filipino families get out of poverty in the long term.

On November 21, 2025, Dr. Karen De Asis from the Philippines will be awarded at the Sofitel Phnom Penh, Phokeethra, Cambodia. She is the 2025 ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs Awardee. Honorees from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam will join her.

NGOs and charities say they aid families in need, but donations and revenue from various recruiting events make it challenging for them to keep doing it.

Helping Filipino family businesses and their brands do well and compete in local and global commerce is a long-term goal that creates hundreds or thousands of jobs. Sustainable and better livelihoods make life better for many individuals, including business owners and their growing workforce. This is the business and advocacy style of Dr. Catherine, also known as Karen De Asis (MBA, PhD), a 2025 ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs Awardee from the Philippines. Dr. Karen De Asis started MKS Marketing Consulting and is responsible for its brand strategy for the company’s clients.

Dr. Karen will receive her award during the Pinnacle Entrepreneurs Forum 2025 in Cambodia on November 21, 2025. The event will recognize ASEAN women entrepreneurs and will also honor fellow AWEN honorees from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

As a brand, marketing, and media company, MKS Marketing Consulting helps Filipino businesses and brands compete in the market. We have exclusively worked with Filipino family businesses led by visionary founders for over a decade, as we believe they are more adaptable and successful. ul. When they do well, their brands help the economy all around the country. Such success naturally leads to more jobs and company growth, which helps more Filipino families live sustainably. The goal of MKS brand consulting is to help Filipino businesses run by visionaries succeed so that more Filipino families can benefit as customers and as people who make money. Dr. Karen says.

Effective strategic branding and marketing generate corporate success, according to MKS Marketing Consulting. To attain amazing results, you need a smart brand strategy, captivating content, effective communication, and savvy use of media.

At the Awen assessment and debate, MKS showed three successful case studies of family-owned businesses. First, there was a retail brand that was 30 years old and had 47 stores when it became an MKS brand account. The brand became the market leader and created thousands of jobs after reorganizing from 47 branches to 350 company-owned branches in 15 years. The second case study is about a new company that only makes air conditioners.  In the past ten years, it has added air conditioners, refrigerators, freezers, TVs, and washing machines to its product line, all delivered to more than 1000 dealer shops around the country, which helped the dealership business and created jobs. People don’t know anything about the third drugstore brand. After four years, it took on the healthcare drugstore retail category by giving customers cheaper choices.

Good brand strategists are leaders and have a lot of responsibility. To run a brand well, you need both natural and creative intelligence. Filipino-owned businesses that build and manage successful brands make market leaders, strong competitors, and loyal customers. However, the social impact and advocacy are much greater when more and more successful Filipino family businesses grow and provide stable jobs for many Filipino families for decades and generations. Dr. Karen states that our MKS brand consulting aims to create this social impact and advocacy.

MKS Marketing Consulting has a lot of experience with brand management and marketing in the following areas: retail, food, healthcare manufacturing, consumer durables, telecommunications, travel and trade, fashion, personal care, and property development. Dr. De Asis has led and directed many brand campaigns that use strategy, new ideas, and creativity. The recent ad campaign in the Philippines employed an AI-generated image for the first time across TV, web, social media, and print ads.

Dr. Catherine Villanueva-De Asis graduated with honors from De La Salle University, College of Education, Taft Avenue, Manila, with a Doctor of Education in education leadership and corporate social responsibility. She graduated with honors from the Ateneo Graduate School of Business with a Master of Business Administration. Post-doctoral executive education fellowships in strategic marketing and leadership at Stanford Graduate School of Business, Stanford University, Silicon Valley, USA, in 2014; the Strategic Leadership Executive Education Program at Oxford University in London, UK, in May 2015; and the Strategic Marketing Executive Education Program at Oxford University in May 2015 followed her doctoral degree.

Dr. Catherine V. De Asis, an entrepreneur and leader, won three major prizes, including the 2003 Agora Award for Excellence in Marketing Education. She won the 2008 De La Salle University Outstanding Faculty Award and the 2018 World Women Leadership Congress Philippines Women Leadership Excellence Award. She taught in some of the best business graduate schools in the Philippines, such as De La Salle, the Asian Institute of Management, and Ateneo’s MBA Health program. She has spoken and taught in the Philippines and other countries. She also joined Positioning author Al Ries at the Philippine leg of the Asian Brand Strategy Conference in Manila. She wrote COLOR FOLDERS IN THE MIND: A BRANDING STORY, which was the first book on brand management in the Philippines.

5 Reasons Why Smart Travelers Never Skip Travel Insurance

Don’t let holiday surprises ruin your trip—peace of mind is just a step away

You’ve planned every detail of your getaway, from flights and hotels to sightseeing and festive dining. But even the best-laid plans can hit a snag, especially during the busy holiday season.

Travel with confidence. Your holiday getaway can be worry-free from unexpected surprises with BDO Insure.

These ’ber months, enjoy your upcoming vacation without the stress of costly travel disruptions from unforeseen events. Experts agree: travel insurance is a smart move—and here are 5 key reasons why savvy travelers swear by it.

    1. Accidents happen. Accidents or unexpected illnesses can happen when traveling. With travel insurance, emergency medical coverage up to P500,000 starts at just P350. You can also upgrade your plan to include emergency care for pre-existing conditions and extreme activities.
    2. Flights get delayed or cancelled. Insurance can cover flight delays of 6 hours or more. For cancelled flights, you can claim prepaid, non-refundable costs like airline tickets, hotels, and transfers.
    3. Travel plans change. Unexpected events like severe weather or family emergencies can force you to cancel or cut your trip short. In such cases, your plan may reimburse non-refundable expenses within your coverage limits.
    4. Luggage issues are common. If your baggage is delayed or damaged, you can be reimbursed for essentials like clothing and toiletries. And if it’s confirmed lost or stolen, you can claim the value of items—up to your policy limits—including valuables like passports, cameras, and electronics.
    5. 24/7 global assistance. Travel plans provide access to a 24/7 multilingual global hotline, which can assist you in finding a medical facility or replacing a lost passport.
