MIAS 2025: Driven by Connections for 20 Years

Twenty years ago, WORLDBEX Services International (WSI) hosted the first Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), displaying the best of the Philippine automobile sector. Today, MIAS continues to set high standards for automotive enthusiasts who prefer high-performance and creative vehicles, as well as those who want to interact with others who enjoy life in the fast lane.

The automotive sector has evolved over the last 20 years, with the Philippines contributing to it through vehicle assembly and the production of vehicle components for other major car firms and manufacturers. Some of the most innovative car manufacturers are from the East Asian continent, and they have made numerous innovations and upgrades to their vehicles, with Japan leading the way. Japan accounts for 57.75% of automotive patent applications, followed by South Korea with 16.61% and Germany in third place.

12.28%. These countries, like the rest of the world, have proved the car industry’s inventive potential. The Philippine automotive sector has demonstrated its desire to innovate and adapt to global industry changes, as evidenced by the growing demand for AI-assisted self-driving cars, which would help automate Filipino drivers’ driving experiences. The Manila International Auto Show will be at the forefront of exhibiting the industry’s future and focusing greater attention on the future of innovation in 2025.

In 2005, motoring writers Jason K. Ang, Ulysses K. Ang, and Alvin Uy addressed Mr. Joseph Ang, the founding chairman of WSI, about creating an international-grade and industry-based auto show that would highlight the local industry’s passion and desire for innovation in the automotive sector. According to Jason Ang, one of the co-organizers of MIAS, “We (the writers) took inspiration from attending international auto shows, and we aimed, as co-organizers, to bring an equivalent world-class experience for the Philippine auto buyers and enthusiasts.” Using his knowledge and expertise, Mr. Joseph Ang seized the opportunity to organize a series of highly successful events, culminating in the inaugural Manila Motor Show in April 2005. Joseph Ang decided to organize this event as an homage to his late father, who was a vehicle dealer and was actively involved in the automobile sector before dying.

MIAS has been recognized by numerous international brands since its inception. It has become an annual go-to event for car manufacturers to introduce new models. MIAS has also received assistance from other motoring groups, including the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP), Tuason Racing School (TRS), and Car Awards Group Inc. (CAGI). MIAS 2019, the largest automobile expo in the country, will commemorate this significant milestone. Aion, BAIC, BYD, Changan, Chery, Foton, GAC, Great Wall Motors, Hyundai, Isuzu, Jetour, Jaecoo, KIA, Lynk & Co., MG, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Omoda, Seres, Suzuki, Vinfast, and Volvo will present their most recent vehicle models and advancements. These brands are eager to set the scene and demonstrate how the automotive sector continues to innovate. This year’s exhibition will feature over 200 automotive displays, as well as more than 90 exhibitors. Major sponsors include BPI Auto Loans, Petron, and Shell.
